Welcome to Elderslie Bearded Collies!
My life with Beardies began when I was a child and my father was looking for a great family dog. Of course, being about 10 years old (this would be around 1980 - I have just really aged myself, haven't I?) and having read Mr. Mugs readers in school, I was pleading for a sheep dog. My Dad felt a sheep dog was too big and spoke with a friend of his, who happened to be a breeder (of a different breed) and she suggested a Beardie. "A what?" - of course was his response.
Thus the research began and Dad was convinced a Beardie would be a perfect family dog and he was right!
Dad brought home the Dogs in Canada Annual to show me a picture of a Bearded Collie.
I thought they were very cute and Dad assured me they were actually sheep dogs as well - just Scottish Sheep dogs :)
So off we went, not very long after to see a lovely lady named Barbara Blake and her Beardies at Colbara Kennels.
Barb was one of the first Beardie breeders in Canada - a major part of Beardie history/beginnings in both Canada and the USA!
Barb was expecting a litter out of her wonderful boy David (CH Brambledale Boz) and agreed to let us have one!
So exciting!
Originally, we were to have a black boy but on puppy visit day, a beautiful blue boy and I just couldn't be parted. A blue boy, who was already spoken for.........
Barb pulled my father aside and said she'd figure something out so that we could take him home.
And home is exactly where my Colbara Blue Galloway Tam ended up!
My heart has been with Beardies ever since!
I now share my home with 3 Beardies of my own and usually have visitors stay from time to time. Either for beardie-sitting or for me to train and show.
If it were up to me, I'd have puppies in this house constantly!
Please check out the rest of the website to meet my dogs and find out more about us.
All the best,
Heather and the Beardie Crew
